Project GRAD Selected for NCAN’s FAFSA Completion Challenge
Project GRAD and HISD will coordinate comprehensive FAFSA training workshops for partnering local college access organizations and community service providers. Training will be provided by uAspire, which currently is used by HISD’s College Readiness Department. uAspire is nationally recognized for assisting in organization increases in their FAFSA completion rates through in person training, webinars, and ‘how-to’ resources. For next year, HISD is willing to share this analysis as well as accompany training around understanding and using award letters when counseling students with local non-profits who partner with Project GRAD under the FAFSA Challenge Grant. In addition, the Grant will fund stipends for 15 recent HISD alumni who are Project GRAD scholars to assist with HISD’s FAFSA completion efforts. Finally, a portion of the Grant will be allocated for community FAFSA Roadshow events for HISD students and families. These events will supplement HISD’s campus based FAFSA Roadshows. Events will be hosted by partnering college access organizations in community spaces, such as cafécollege Houston, Neighborhood Centers (Leonel Castillo Center), and YMCAs (Anderson and others).
