Best-Selling Author and Education Advocate Stedman Graham Fires Up Project GRAD Houston Volunteers for Annual Walk for Success

A Rare Opportunity to Meet and Mingle With This Dynamic Personality

(Houston, TX)- Project GRAD Houston is pleased to announce that New York Times bestselling author, management consultant and education reformer Stedman Graham will join hundreds of volunteers and friends at the Edwin Hornberger Conference Center on Tuesday, October 4, as part of the Walk For Success Walk Rally. Beginning at 6 pm, Graham will tell the story of his own journey – from humble beginnings, to collegiate success and eventual business leadership.
Graham is Chairman and CEO of S. Graham & Associates, a management and marketing consulting company that creates customized training and leadership development programs for corporate and educational markets. Actively involved in education, Graham is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he teaches a leadership course based on his Nine-Step Process.

Graham is also a well-respected author, and beginning at 8 pm, he will be signing his books You Can Make It Happen: A Nine-Step Plan for Success and Teens Can Make It Happen: Nine Steps to Success.

“Mr. Graham has been a strong supporter of this country’s youth and the critical importance of education. Through his life experiences and writings, Mr. Graham reinforces the need for teens to understand that their education choices today will determine their success, or lack of it, in the future. Having lived it, his message is powerful. Project GRAD is honored  to host Mr. Graham’s visit to Houston,” says Roy Hughes, Executive Director, Project GRAD Houston.
The Walk Rally is the kickoff event for the 17th annual Walk for Success – a morning operation on October 8 from 8:00 a.m. to noon that will mobilize more than 5,000 community volunteers, including teachers, parents, corporate partners, principals and other friends.  The volunteers will walk to the homes of 10,000 HISD inner-city, at-risk kids.  The purpose of The Walk is to enlist the parents of incoming 9th graders, 6th graders and elementary students in their child’s education as well as to share with them the benefits their child can enjoy by participating in the GRAD program. The annual Walk for Success is a collaborative effort among Project GRAD Houston, Houston Independent School District and Communities in Schools.

“The Walk for Success is an incredible opportunity for our parents and students to hear the good news about how Project GRAD and HISD are working to provide a quality pre-k through 12th grade education leading to college scholarships and professional opportunities,” says Laurie Ballering, Director of Research, Project GRAD Houston.

Along with Graham, Antonio Hernandez, anchor from Univision, will be the master of ceremonies. The event and parking are complimentary, and light snacks will be provided.
