Project GRAD Celebrates the Week of the Young Child
Project GRAD Houston will celebrate the Week of the Young Child on April 6, 2005, a time to recognize that a child’s opportunities are our responsibility, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment -- at home, at child care, at school, and in the community.
Highlights of Project GRAD’s Week of the Young Child Celebration on April 6, 2005 starting at 11:00 a.m., 6700 W. Loop South, 1st Floor Auditorium, Bellaire, TX 77401 include:
- A story time with Mother Goose for children
- Special performance by pre-kindergarten students in the Wheatley Child Development Center
- Rick Lozano, Regional Manager of Lakeshore Learning Stores, will recognize Dogan Elementary School Teacher, Alfreedia Scott, Kindergarten as a winner of the Extreme Classroom Makeover
- Guest speaker from HISD’s Early Childhood Department
“Lakeshore Learning Stores donated over $10,000 in furniture and materials for the Extreme Classroom Makeover and we are grateful for their generosity in helping the community and professional training for teachers,” says Rosa Woodfork, Manager of the Early Childhood Program, Project GRAD Houston. “The purpose of the competition was to find a teacher in need of furniture and materials for optimal instruction for the young child and use the selected classroom as a “model” classroom to provide a framework for other teachers for optimal room arrangements that support each child’s literacy development. Teachers had to write an essay explaining whey their classroom needed an extreme makeover.”
