Classroom Time: Two 60 minute sessions
Purpose: Identify solids and their lateral area, surface area, volume, and slant height and review the Pythagorean Theorem and the use of different solids in sculpture architecture.
Skills Addressed:
Math skill: Review the Pythagorean Theorem, identify different solids and find their lateral area, surface area, slant height and volume.
Visual Arts Skill: choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas, making connections between visual arts and other disciplines
Supplies:
Protractor, Pencil, handout, blank paper or cardstock, markers and/or map pencils, cardboard, glue, containers, different containers of various shapes, connecting cubes, graph paper/large graph paper, 1” graph paper copied onto cardstock ( http://www.math.kent.edu/~white/graphpaper/one.pdf), metric and customary measuring tool, scissors, and calculator if desired
