Purpose: Observe shadows and how they change with relatio to the sun’s location or position, compare and contrast the sizes of the shadow of the same object and create their own shadows
Skills Addressed:
ELA skill: Share their own work and communicate ideas’ communicate explanations about investigations using simple sentences, illustrations and oral presentations Science skill: Shadows: relation to the sun’s position; help us in finding cardinal directions
Math skill: Observe, measure, and record changes in size, mass, color and position Visual Arts skill: Create a self-portrait, recognize shadows in artwork; develop environmental awareness through artwork
Supplies:
Overhead projector or light source, plain background – white space, large piece of paper per student, white paper, black paper, pencil, crayons/markers/colored pencils, scissors, construction paper, glue, and internet access |
