Hicham Benohoud, La Salle De Classe [The Classroom], 2000-2002, Inkjet Print (image A and B)
Hicham Benohoud is an teacher in visual arts in Marrakech, Morocco. For La Salle De Classe he would ask one of his students to interrupt their work at a random moment and pose for a photo as the other students continued working. The students could make use of props that were present in the classroom. The results were a series of portraits that illustrated the collaboration between the teacher and his students.
Hicham Benohoud, born in Morocco in 1966, was part of Nazar: Photographs from the Arab World at FotoFest in 2005.
Objectives:
- Strengthen writing and visual literacy skills through the interpretation of a photographic image.
- Develop investigative strategies to write a multi-paragraph descriptive composition by collecting information, acquiring data, and seeking out visual sources.
- Develop visual literacy skills through reading photographic images using the “Four Step Process.”
- Build analytical skills by combining visual analysis with depth of expression in writing.
- Improve quality of writing skills through editing and refining compositions.
The mission of Project GRAD is to ensure a quality public education for all students in economically disadvantaged communities so that high school and college graduation rates increase.
