REPORTS TO: Director, Parent & Community Engagement
PURPOSE
The Parent and Community Engagement (PACE) Coordinator is responsible for developing and providing opportunities to involve parents in the educational growth of their children, particularly with regard to college awareness and preparedness, within his/her designated Houston ISD feeder patterns. Additionally, PACE coordinators are responsible for building a broad constituency of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members to engage in strategic planning to support the education of the area’s children.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- 50% - Annually conducts numerous meetings with parents, teachers, school administrators, other community groups and Communities In Schools (CIS) personnel concerning:
- Parent University (including some night and week-end activities)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
- College Tours/Week
- Parent Convention/Recognition
- Parent Board of Trustees
- Other major Project GRAD sponsored events
- 15% -Works closely with parents, teachers, school administrators, other community members and CIS personnel to organize participation in the annual Walk for Success at assigned schools.
- 15% - Works cooperatively with other Project GRAD Houston employees to achieve Project GRAD’s goals, especially with regard to College Access/Scholarship
- 10% - Works closely with school personnel, CIS personnel and other community agencies to identify resources/avenues for potential collaboration on initiatives aligned with Project GRAD goals, especially with regard to College Access/Scholarship
- 5% - Record-keeping and program management (guidelines, checklist, budgets, statistical analysis, etc.)
- 5% - Performs other related duties as assigned
PRIMARY CONTACTS & PURPOSE
- Project GRAD’s PACE Director and other PACE staff
- Project GRAD’s Scholarship Department personnel
- Project GRAD’s GEAR UP Grant Manager
- HISD staff, particularly building principals, campus and regional parental involvement personnel, and personnel in the Department of Strategic Partnerships
- CIS personnel, including Field Supervisors, Project and Case Managers
- Community Organizations’ leadership
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two year’s experience working with parent programs, adult education programs, or other similar social service type of work.
- Minimum of two year’s experience working with low to moderate income families.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Language skills commiserate with the dominate home language of the community/neighborhood
- Highly proficient in English communication skills, both writing and speaking
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Valid Texas Drivers License, proof of liability insurance, and ability to travel to school sites and family residences
DESIRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with community services and resources
- Ability to vary presentation style with audience/meeting purpose
