TITLE:  Director of Fine Arts
DEPT: Fine Arts Program

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Academic Programs

PURPOSE:
Direct the ongoing work of Project GRAD Houston’s (PGH) Fine Arts Program in order to provide partnering feeder schools with a highly coordinated, quality, comprehensive, sequential program that meets national and state standards in Pre-K through 12th grades. Strengthen critical partnerships, including all levels of HISD and local arts organizations, so that students have access to an arts-enriched world with greater opportunities for academic success. Create new partnerships with Houston’s arts organizations that will compliment and enrich the experiences of the students served by Project GRAD. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Direct all day-to-day aspects of the implementation of the Project GRAD Houston Fine Arts Program. Direct, coordinate, support, and evaluate the work of the Project GRAD Houston Fine Arts staff.
  • Collaborate with all Project GRAD Houston staff, relevant HISD staff (principals, teachers), and arts partners to further the mission of Project GRAD Houston and its Fine Arts Program.
  • Meet regularly with PGH Founder and Fine Arts Chairperson.  Make recommendations for improvements in departmental organization in order to more effectively reach annual goals and Project GRAD Houston’s mission. 
  • Establish and maintain procedures/systems to monitor and report the status of the Fine Arts Program at each Project GRAD Houston school.
  • Develop and manage annual department budgets.  Provide operational reports and analyze financial reporting regularly, as well as any special reporting related to Fine Arts performance as required by any department-related grants.
  • Direct all aspects of events related to the department: annual Fine Arts Festival, Summer Camp, and other special events.
  • Create or expand programs to appropriately and effectively engage parents and other community members in the ongoing work of the Fine Arts Program and in the mission of Project GRAD Houston.
  • Initiate and maintain partnerships and collaborations with arts related organizations and other partners to enhance and support the program.
  • Assist Project GRAD Houston’s development and public relations efforts as needed.
  • Support all aspects of the Project GRAD model.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of eight (8) years experience in the arts community, arts education, or related field, preferably serving students or families in low income communities.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required; a Master’s Degree preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other office software
  • Valid Texas Drivers License, proof of liability insurance, and ability to travel to school sites and family residences
